Beacon Barn has an aging population of critters, many of whom have been with the barn from the beginning. The goal is to try and give them the best life possible for as long as possible. Pictured below are those that we fondly remember.
This is Tama in 2013 with her half-sister Mori in the background. Mori will be 27 years old in May 2025. However, we lost Tama in 2021 at the age of 25. She was born Mother's Day weekend 1996 and died on Mother's Day weekend 2021. Tama's claim to fame was that her dad was owned by the late actor Patrick Swayze. She had the absolute best personality and loved everyone she met. She was also always kind to the other horses and all the other animals on the farm.
Sahara was our most recent loss and was 22 when she unexpectantly died at the end of 2024. She was the leader of the other horses, and they are still adjusting to her not being around. Through the years she was a 4-H horse and also a regular at multiple horse camps. She loved to be groomed and of course loved treats, especially carrots. Sahara was a mare with class and sass and is missed every day!
​​This is Kevin Bacon. He had been with Beacon Barn for 9 years and we believe he was around 12 years old when he died in 2022. Kevin was a rescue from an abuse/neglect situation. He was a reserved and cautious fellow and would often gravitate towards those with similar qualities. He had some difficulty hearing and seeing, but his nose worked perfectly as he could quickly smell snacks and was especially partial to go-gurts. Kevin was a gentle soul and enjoyed life to the very end.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
This is Shawn the Sheep and his brother Lucky the Lamb standing behind him in 2013. Sadly, Shawn died in 2024 at the age of 11. He was such a kind and curious fellow. He was close to his brother and friends with the pigs and horses, but he also liked chickens and would often let them perch on his back. Lucky is 12 years old and although he is a little arthritic and misses Shawn, he is doing well and has become best friends with Spike.
